This is Sally. Our organised and articulate dietitian who always calls it as she sees it.
She’s also a director and senior dietitian of Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery (NFWLS).
Sally likes to work behind the scenes and is passionate about systems, resources and best practice. She understands that having solid foundations in place may not sound exciting (to anyone other than her), but she also believes it’s fundamental to best supporting people on their weight loss journeys.
An acredited practising dietitian since 2003, Sally moved exclusively into the bariatric space in 2008 upon identifying a need within the area. Since that time, Sally has not only immersed herself fully in all aspects of weight loss surgery but also found ways to add value and effect positive change in people’s lives and wellbeing.
Her book, Your Complete Guide to Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery, came about from spending time with people undergoing weight loss surgery and realising that, like her, many people don’t like to cook and can find it overwhelming, especially following weight loss surgery. Your Complete Guide to Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery seeks to make cooking and understanding nutrition for weight loss that little bit simpler and easier to manage.
Sally was awarded the Yakult Prize within the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2002 (in recognition of her best performance in critical thinking in the nutrition subject), the DAA SA Prize in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2002(awarded to the student whose overall academic record, performance in placements and general contribution to the course was judged to be the best) and placed on Dean’s Merit List in the Division of Health Sciences in 2000. She is a member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) and an associate member of the Australian and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS).
Sally’s ideal day off work involves water sports on the Murray—water skiing, knee boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, or even just floating along. But she’s also fond of eating chocolate brownies, drinking gin and a spot of online shopping when time permits. And you might be surprised to learn that Sally was a state champion water skier as a teen, even representing Australia on more than one occasion.
